On August 13, 2019, the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine manufactured by Beijing Minhai Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Minhai Biotechnology) successfully passed the review of the National Medical Products Administration and obtained the batch release certificate for biological products. Following procedures such as inclusion in provincial-level vaccine procurement platforms, the product has been progressively distributed to local markets. With an annual production capacity of 10 million doses, Minhai Biotechnology’s 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine is currently the only one available in two dosage forms. It is indicated for the prevention of diseases—including pneumonia, meningitis, otitis media, and bacteremia—caused by 23 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae, and is suitable for individuals aged 2 years and older who are at increased risk.
