Abstract
Kangtai and Minhai’s partner has received a drug registration certificate issued by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), approving the marketing of a “dual‑carrier” 13‑valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine that is locally filled and packaged in Indonesia. This is the first product from Kangtai Minhai to be approved for market launch after being transferred overseas through technology transfer and repackaged locally. This marks a milestone for the company’s long-standing, steadfast internationalization strategy of integrating “bringing in” with “going out.”

The 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine covers 13 common serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae that are highly pathogenic, thereby protecting children from pneumococcal diseases. Kangtai Minhai’s globally pioneering 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine with a “dual‑carrier” formulation is the only product of its kind to be included in the 2025 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China. It employs two carrier proteins conjugated to pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides, thereby avoiding carrier‑induced epitope suppression. Studies have shown that, in participants as young as 2 months of age, the bivalent‑carrier 13‑valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine maintained a 100% seroconversion rate for all 13 serotypes even two years after vaccination. Furthermore, children aged 6 weeks to 5 years (before their sixth birthday) can be vaccinated at any time during the recommended vaccination window.
In recent years, international organizations such as the World Health Organization have actively promoted capacity‑building in vaccine production among developing countries along the Belt and Road. Chinese vaccine manufacturers, exemplified by Kangtai Minhai, have leveraged technology transfer to support the local filling and packaging of advanced domestically produced vaccines, thereby more effectively addressing regional health needs. Under this collaborative model, Chinese vaccine companies not only advance their transformation from “product export” to “technology export,” but also deepen their engagement in the global public health system, contributing to equitable vaccine distribution and making a greater contribution to safeguarding the health of people worldwide.
