Abstract

SANTIAGO, May 24 (Xinhua) — By reporter Zhang Xiaoran: On the 24th, Chile’s Advanced Medical Systems Investment Company, the University of Chile, and other institutions held a virtual signing ceremony with China’s Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kangtai Bio”), reaching an agreement on conducting Phase III clinical trials of Kangtai Bio’s inactivated COVID‑19 vaccine in Chile and on the procurement of its products. Attending the signing ceremony were Chile’s Special Envoy for Asia-Pacific Affairs and former President Ricardo Lagos, Chilean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs José Miguel Yáñez, as well as representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Chile, the Chilean Embassy in China, and other relevant organizations. 　　Chile’s Special Envoy for Asia-Pacific Affairs and former President Frei, Chilean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Yáñez, along with representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Chile, the Chilean Embassy in China, and other institutions, attended the signing ceremony.

　　At the signing ceremony, Kangtai Biological stated that it hopes this collaboration will both advance the Phase III clinical trials of its COVID‑19 vaccine and support its supply as a public good worldwide, particularly in developing countries, while also establishing an international model for industry–university–research cooperation in the field of vaccine development.

　　On the 14th, Kangtai Biological announced that its COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for emergency use in China. At present, Kangtai Biological has initiated Phase III clinical trials of its COVID-19 vaccine in multiple countries worldwide.
