Abstract
On July 12, the Expert Committee of the China Top 100 Pharmaceutical Companies Ranking released the “2021 China Top 100 Pharmaceutical Companies Series Rankings.” Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. was honored as one of the “Top 10 Chinese Biopharmaceutical Enterprises of 2021.”
This year’s selection focuses on the innovation-driven capabilities and professional marketing prowess of pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises, evaluating them across key metrics such as R&D investment and quantitative market‑demand data. As a result, it enjoys considerable authority and influence within the industry.

Founded in 1992, Kangtai Biological has, over the past three decades, focused on the research, development, manufacturing, and marketing of human vaccines. It has now grown into a leading, internationally diversified, innovative biopharmaceutical company. The company has ten marketed products, including those approved for emergency use; among these, its 60-microgram hepatitis B vaccine and its dual‑vector 13‑valent pneumococcal vaccine are world firsts, while its quadrivalent vaccine is the only one of its kind in China. Furthermore, Kangtai Biological is the first company globally to have two COVID‑19 vaccines based on distinct technological platforms approved for emergency use.
Kangtai Biological is one of the domestic companies with the most comprehensive vaccine R&D platforms, possessing capabilities in viral vaccines, bacterial vaccines, recombinant protein vaccines, conjugate vaccines, and multivalent vaccines. The company holds over 50 patents and has more than 30 pipeline products, broadly covering the world’s mainstream vaccine categories. In recent years, the company has significantly increased its R&D investment and strengthened its R&D talent pool; in 2021, R&D spending accounted for over 20% of revenue, and R&D personnel represented nearly 19% of the total workforce, injecting a high‑quality, sustainable innovation-driven growth engine into the enterprise.
Looking ahead, the company will remain committed to its corporate mission of “creating better vaccines to benefit human health,” uphold its core values of “people‑centeredness and public health,” and harness scientific innovation to fuel endogenous growth. By leveraging breakthrough products and robust marketing strategies, the company will drive new avenues of expansion. It will continue to implement its dual strategy of “bringing in” and “going out,” enabling its vaccine portfolio to increasingly penetrate international markets and striving to become a globally recognized provider of biologic vaccines.
