Abstract
On the evening of April 21, the “International Cooperation and Pandemic Response in the New Context” sub-forum of the Boao Forum for Asia 2022 Annual Conference was held in Boao, Hainan. The sub-forum’s theme was “The Pandemic and the World: Jointly Promoting Global Development and Building a Shared Future.”
Miao Xiang, President of Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd., attended the sub-forum. In his remarks, he stated that, given the extremely rapid mutation rate of current COVID‑19 variants and the difficulty of keeping pace with vaccine development, it is imperative for the global community to pool its resources and treat COVID‑19 vaccines as public goods.
Miao Xiang calls on the international community to establish a research-and‑production coordination mechanism similar to China’s dedicated task force for vaccine development, to jointly monitor SARS‑CoV‑2 variants and ensure their equitable distribution; to advance a global mutual‑recognition framework for COVID‑19 vaccines; to coordinate worldwide efforts in capacity planning and deployment; to set up a unified production‑and‑stockpiling platform; and to streamline regulatory approval processes. These measures would further promote fair access to and equitable vaccination across the globe, particularly in low‑income countries, thereby helping the world overcome the pandemic at an early date.
