Minhai Biologics Hosts an Innovative Vaccine Symposium, Focusing on the Cutting Edge of Therapeutic Vaccines for Myasthenia Gravis

On July 31, Beijing Minhai Biotechnology Co., Ltd. successfully held an “Innovative Vaccine Technology Seminar” in the First Conference Room of its R&D Building, focusing on cutting-edge research into therapeutic vaccines for myasthenia gravis (MG). The event was attended by the company’s Executive Deputy General Manager, expert advisors, deputy general managers, production leaders, the general manager’s assistant, and more than 60 key R&D personnel. Professor Roger from the George Washington University School of Medicine was invited to deliver the keynote address, sharing the latest research findings and technological breakthroughs in this field. Professor Roger has devoted over thirty years to studying the pathogenesis and treatment of myasthenia gravis. He explained that MG is an antibody‑mediated autoimmune disorder whose core mechanism involves the immune system mistakenly attacking acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, thereby blocking nerve signal transmission and causing muscle weakness. Currently, clinical management primarily relies on immunosuppressants and targeted antibodies; while these approaches can alleviate symptoms, they are associated with significant long-term side effects, high costs, and the inability to achieve a cure. In response to this unmet clinical need, Professor Roger’s team has innovatively developed a therapeutic vaccine based on proteins within the intramembrane region of the acetylcholine receptor. Animal studies have demonstrated that this vaccine can elicit a specific antibody response, delivering “threefold therapeutic benefits”: redirecting the antibody response from the extracellular domain to the intramembrane region, thus reducing the pathogenic antibodies’ attack on the neuromuscular junction; markedly diminishing antibody‑induced activation of the complement system, thereby mitigating immune‑mediated tissue damage; and inducing a shift in antibody subtypes, converting highly pathogenic IgG2b into non‑pathogenic variants. In rat models, after administration at an optimized dose, MG symptoms were completely suppressed, with protective effects sustained for six months following discontinuation of treatment and no apparent adverse effects—offering a novel approach toward curing MG. As a leading biopharmaceutical enterprise in China, Minhai Biotechnology has consistently placed “unmet clinical needs” at the heart of its R&D strategy.
